If you open a com port successfully but the stuff that appears in the TC window looks more like alphabet soup than time code, you probably need to change the protocol in the Settings menu to match the one that you are using. While the port will open fine if you are using, say the Addenda TC translation box, it uses a different baud rate than SONYtm protocol. Most likely you would get an error in the TC window that said "No Code 2," but it is possible that you would just get a bunch of junk in the display as well.
