RS-232 VTR won't respond.

This problem can occur for several reasons, we'll split them into two categories to better help diagnose the problem.

VTR buttons on the PC still inactive (invisible button icons.): If this is the case there may be a problem in communicating with the VTR or most likely the VTR is in Local mode and not in Remote. Usually if this is the case the word "Local" will appear in the VTR status box in the bottom right hand corner of the VTR button window. Switch your VTR to Remote and then re-select the port number. This should eliminate the problem. (You may need to select Port 0 first, then select the port number you are connected to.)

VTR buttons on the PC work, but the deck doesn't respond.: If you are receiving the correct time code, and the VTR is in remote, but it still will not respond to the button clicks on the PC you most likely have a bad RS-232 adapter. If this is not the case, there is a possibility that the problem could be in the VTR. If you can check the PC with another deck or you can connect that deck to another remote control device, you should be able to determine if this is the problem. (This can also happen if you are previewing the video from your capture device on the PC screen. Try closing the video window and see if this eliminates the problem. Closing this window will still allow you to grab video thumbnails.)
