RS-232 no time code appears.
If the port opens correctly but no time code appears or the VTR keys do not become active, you will usually see an error code appear in the time code window. If this is not the case then please re-check all the cable connections and insure that the RS-232 side of the adapter is attached to the PC's com port.
No Code 1: If this error appears in the time code window it means that there is no communication between the PC and the VTR. In other words, your PC is sending out commands to VTR correctly but they are either not reaching the VTR or the VTR can not respond. This problem is generally caused by bad connections, a faulty RS-232 to RS-422 adapter, or possibly opening a port number that is valid but has something other than the VTR connected to it. It is possible to get a com port number with a modem attached to it to respond much like a VTR... until you try to get time code. Check the settings of your PC's com ports. See RS-232 Error Occurs in Port Selection, for more details.
No Code 2: If this error occurs it means that the response from the VTR was incomplete or could not be understood. This usually occurs when you have a very long stretch of cable between the VTR and the PC. It can also be caused if your PC is too slow or has insufficient memory to process the commands quickly enough. If you are running this program on a computer that is not at least a Pentium/75mhz with 8 meg of RAM this could be the case. Also, if you have a lot of other programs running at the same time, this can cause problems. We highly recommend that you close as many programs as you can before opening the com port to your VTR. Since communication between PC and VTR occurs every 30th of a second, a lot of CPU time is needed for clear, constant communications. If you are watching the video from your capture device on the PC screen, you may also be causing problems for reading TC. Try closing the Video Window and see if this corrects the problem. (Closing the video window will still allow you to grab video thumbnails.)
