Connecting to a VTR.
General Information:
There are several ways to connect your PC to a VTR or VCR all of which require some type of device to go between the serial port on the back of your PC and the output of the video deck. There are currently two ways to easily make this connection. If you are using a broadcast VTR that has an RS-422 serial control connector you can use an RS-232 to RS-422 adapter cable and connect directly to the deck. If you have a time code only source, such as the output of any camcorder or a VCR with time code recorded on an audio channel, you will need to have some type of a device that translates this time code into RS-232 format. The devices most tested with this software so far are called the Easy Reader. from Telcom Research® and the TCR-102 from Addenda®. There are other devices available, and they may work just as well. Please call us before purchasing any device to see if we have tested it or not.
*Note: If your camcorder or VCR has a Control-L or LANC connector, a stereo mini plug, you can also purchase an RS/2L adapter from Addenda®. This will allow you to control the device as well as read whatever "time code" information is generated by it.
